The agreement on cooperation between representatives of the two parties, which covers seven mineral prospecting and mining rights, was signed at Nanjing Centre, marking a new phase of practical cooperation between the two countries in the field of geological survey and mineral resource development. It is of particular significance that the signing ceremony took place at Nanjing Centre.
As an important technical support unit for China ' s geological survey, the Nanjing Centre has a long-standing commitment to global mineral resource exploration and cooperation. October 2024, Gabriel, Chief Engineer, Bureau of Mineral Resources, Papua New Guinea·The Konar branch visited Nanjing Centre, where an important consensus was reached on deepening geo-scientific cooperation. The signing of this agreement on mining rights is a concrete step towards the implementation of previous exchanges between the parties and the promotion of mining cooperation in the context of the "Away the Way". Papua New Guinea has an excellent mineral endowment and a wealth of mineral resources such as gold and copper. In recent years, the new PNG Government has been active in optimizing the investment climate in mining, with 44 mining rights applications approved in November 2024 to attract foreign investment and promote resource development. The seven gold-mining operations that were concluded with PNG are one of the key initiatives of the new PNG Government to promote the development of the mining industry and to transform its resource advantages into economic dynamism.
Under the agreement, PNG will receive exclusive exploration and exploitation rights for the seven gold mines. The company plans to introduce state-of-the-art survey techniques, green mining concepts and internationalized management experience to promote resource development in a scientific and efficient manner, in strict compliance with local environmental regulations and social responsibility standards. Both sides will establish a regularized communication coordination mechanism to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. This cooperation is an example of a mutually beneficial win-win. For PNG, access to quality mining rights will further expand the business landscape in the Pacific and enhance international competitiveness. For Papua New Guinea, the project's landing will directly boost local employment, infrastructure and industrial chain development, increase government revenue and re-energize sustainable economic and social development. At the signing ceremony, representatives of both sides had confidence in the prospects for cooperation. The PNG mining industry has indicated that it will actively pursue corporate social responsibility and promote harmonious coexistence with local communities, based on the principles of "consensus, construction and sharing". The representative of the Bureau of Mineral Resources of Papua New Guinea stressed that this cooperation was a living expression of friendly relations between the two countries and looked forward to future cooperation in a broader and deeper context. Looking to the future, with this signing as a new starting point, China and Pakistan will continue to deepen their cooperation in geological investigations, mineral exploration, technology exchange and human resource development, contributing actively to regional economic development and global mining prosperity.
